Projects so far:

We’re very excited to be part of a collaboration between Wilderhood Watch and Wild Jam, which will involve carrying out bat surveys along Marshal’s Drive and The Wick.

_{We are very fortunate to have The Wick on our doorstep, a local nature reserve supporting a large amount of wildlife including more than 30 species of bird.}

We’re hoping that residents will feel inspired through joining in with our bat project to garden in ways that will attract more bats and other wildlife. Just by creating more habitat and foraging opportunities in our gardens, we’ll be encouraging animals to travel between The Wick and other green spaces in St Albans. This in turn will allow populations to grow and become more resilient when faced with challenges such as climate change.

We already know that bats like to travel along tree lines and native hedgerows, foraging as they fly. Gaps in the greenery can discourage them from continuing along their path, so plugging those gaps by planting trees and hedges in our gardens is one of the best actions we can take.
