Firbank Road Buzz Stops – Wilderhood Watch

_{By June 2025 our new Buzz Stop was blooming with masses of cornflowers and camomile. We hope to see more biodiversity next year when the perennials start to flower.}

We were lucky enough to be granted permission in April 2024 from the St Albans District Council to plant meadows on three triangles of grass located at both ends of Firbank road. In November residents from Beech rd and Hobart Walk scarified, raked and planted wildflowers and native daffodil bulbs on all of the sites. We can’t wait to see what pops up this spring and summer!

_{This lovely sunny triangle on the intersection of Firbank and Valley roads has recently been planted with trees by the Hertfordshire County Council. Studies show that trees surrounded by meadow are less prone to being attacked by pests, as the wildflowers and long grass support invertebrates which feed on them. So we’re very excited that by planting a meadow on this site and on the triangle opposite (see below) we’re not only supporting pollinators but helping to protect the trees. In Spring 2025 the wild daffodils we planted bloomed for the first time.}
